Aim:
The objective of the course is to make the student realise how companies can adapt their activities to environmental concerns. Comprehension of the possibilities and restraints attached to environmental work from an economic, marketing and legal point of view are emphasised. Strategical concepts and tools used for environmental management today are discussed.

Prerequisites:
Basic knowledge in business economics.

Course organization:
The course includes lectures, seminars and assignments.

Course content:
EMS (Environmental Management Strategies) and environmental policies. Clean production, pollution prevention, substitution of chemicals and waste minimisation. LCA (Life Cycle Assessment), environmental impact assessment and environmental reports. Swedish and international legislation. The international development. Economic instruments of control such as taxes and fees. Valuation of environmental effects and the "environmental debt".
