Aim:
The course aims to give knowledge about the environmental effects and the use of different materials, for example plastics and metals. The course also aims to increase the knowledge about the flow of materials in the technosphere and how the exploitation of the natural resources can become sustainable. You will also learn how to write a scientific paper by doing an assignment.

Prerequisites:
Chemistry 2,5 p from civil engineering studies or equivalent knowledge. Environmental Science and Environmental Technology desirable but not compulsory.

Supplementary courses:
TFMÄ85 Environmental Measurement Technology, TFMÄ87 Environmental Management Strategies and TFMÄ90 Life Cycle Assessment and Ecodesign.

Course organization:
The course includes lectures, seminars, assignments and study visits to different companies.

Course content:
The course deals with the environmental effects from different materials, especially metals and plastics, and the environmental effects from different industrial processes as surface treatment. The course also contains an overview of some important toxix substances in environmental history. An important component is the study visits that illustrate the different parts of the course.
