2007 MASTER'S PROGRAMME IN ENGINEERING MECHANICS 120 hp
Aim/vision A Master of Science in Engineering Mechanics from Linköping University works with all aspects of the realization of complex products and industrial processes, specializing in the modelling and analysis aspects of the design process. A graduate from this program will be able to take part in multidisciplinary design processes where technical as well as economical, environmental and sustainability requirements are satisfied. The programme is aimed at students with a Bachelor degree who would like to extend their knowledge in engineering mechanics and engineering science. Graduates are suitable for employment in industry, business, academic institutions and at major research/development laboratories.
Programme goals
Content of the Programme The Master programme in Engineering Mechanics is focused on the analytical tools of mechanical engineering. The programme includes mathematics, general and applied mechanics as well as a large selection of elective courses. The objective of the programme is to give the students a thorough training in classical and modern applied mechanics with a strong focus on modelling and simulation. The programme prepares the students for advanced work in engineering design, computational engineering and research. Solid and fluid mechanics, materials science and computer methods are all important application areas. The curriculum includes a core semester with courses such as Engineering Materials, Mechanics of Lightweight Structures and Linear & Non-linear optimization. After the core semester the programme consists of a mix of advanced engineering mechanics courses and freely elective courses. The programme ends with a one semester Master's thesis in industry or at the university. After the programme the students will be attractive both to industry, pursuing an specialist career, and to academia.
Master Thesis The thesis should include high quality scientific research within the research area of the profile chosen by the student. Without special permission a thesis work may be performed in the following subject areas:
PhD courses in the programme Certain PhD courses can be taken by master students. These course selections are subject to formal decision by the executive committee of the Program Board.
Entrance requirements and degree See general rules and regulations for master programmes at LiTH.
