Aim:
The students shall acquire basic knowledge on various techniques for analysis, recognition and synthesis of human speech and their applications such as speech communication and system control.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Computational Linguistics is recommended.

Teaching comprises lectures and specialized assignment and laborations.

Course contents:
Models for speech communication. The human speech apparatus (anatomy and physiology). Speech production and perception. Acoustic phenomena. Language sounds: phonetics and phonology. Techniques for speech synthesis (articulatory techniques, LPS). Techniques for speech recognition (rule based, stochastic, DTW-techniques). Architectures for speech understanding systems and dialogue systems.
