Organisation:
The course is based on lectures, seminars, report writing and finally an oral examination. During the lectures knowledge about leadership, management and industrial change are discussed. The lectures give the basics from literature: organizational requirements to build possibilities and to meet hindrance in order to develop management and leadership. The role of the organization and the leader is analysed from several theoretical perspectives and the practical consequences for the organization, the employees and the leaders are treated by discussing relevant questions about leadership and organizational change. During a "conference day" the students insights into leadership are developed more in detail by among others article presentations and participation in group dynamic exercises. We consider organizations as social systems. As a consequence, the focus is on people and their prerequisites to act in organizations. The course will mainly be problem-oriented and theoretical in nature. In order to illustrate leadership, several practical experienced people will participate during lectures and seminars. Moreover, group exercises will be used to show several interesting phenomenon related to leadership. These exercises will be discussed by using theoretical interpretations.

Course contents:
The course does not focus specifically on educating the participants in becoming leaders or in exercising leadership in practice. For us leadership development requires personnel development during a life long process by the interplay of theory and practical experience. Our intention is to improve the students insights into and understanding for the organizational prerequisites in companies that create possibilities as well as difficulties to act as a leader or manager. More and more companies seek for creating structures, leadership patterns and working situations that enable companies to focus on lead times, quality and economy. In many cases solutions are found in creating cross-functional ways of working in production as well as product development. This way of working puts different requirements on management and organizational leadership. The overall aim of the course is to increase the studentsâ?T ability and knowledge for understanding cross-functional cooperation and the related consequences for employees, leadership and industrial change processes.
