Aim:
The course deals with vector functions and vector fields, and gives the mathematical theory of potentials and flows which are at the basis of, amongst other areas, theoretical electrotechnology and fluid mechanics. After the course one can
- find potentials and vector potentials for a vector field
- calculate path and surface integrals
- use Gauss' and Stokes' theorems for calculations of flux and path integrals
- find flow lines of a vector field
- solve boundary value problems for Poisson's och Laplace's equations and Maxwell's system in domains of simple geometry
- use spherical and cylindrical coordinates in calculations
