CONTENTS
The landscape reflects the culture's interplay with nature. Ecological values, sustainable development and economisation of natural resources are becoming more important. The meadows and pens we see today are the results of centuries of cultivation. Understanding of how man has shaped the cultural landscape is important, and the practical knowledge of how to preserve the open landscape is disappearing.
The course provides knowledge of the emergence of the cultural landscape and how we preserve and take care of our cultural heritage. The practical knowledge is in focus.
We produce our own tools to use in the course. We try various techniques in practice, such as scythe-mowing, fence building, pollarding of trees etc. We learn about and try to retain and preserve some raw materials from nature's pantry.

With the meadow and open landscape as starting points, we follow the changes and chores of the year. Course meetings take place in different locations in Eastern Gothia and northern Småland which function as our sources of knowledge and inspiration.
TEACHING
Lectures, seminars, workshops, own practical work and field trips to different cultural landscapes.
EXAMINATION
The course is examined through practical presentations of individually produced objects and acquired techniques. Present a local plan for care of a cultural area which is formulated as an individual written advanced assignment including reflections linked to a selected location in the cultural landscape where the students applies their knowledge from the course.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
