AIM OF THE COURSE |
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- account for how theorising and educational traditions related to the outdoor environment are associated with subject areas and learning in the natural and social sciences - use natural and cultural environments throughout the year as an arena and a tool for learning - describe the relationship between outdoor physical activity and health, both from a learning perspective and a life perspective - interpret, describe and explain traces of the forces of nature and human activity in different landscape types - describe the relationship between outdoor education teaching and school control documents. |
CONTENTS |
The course covers the didactic questions of outdoor education related to teaching outside the class-room. The student practises interpreting, processing and communicating the information of the landscape in different seasons. The importance for learning, health and stress management of being outside is highlighted in theory and practice. By means of integrated and thematic working methods, an understanding of nature and cultural environments in the immediate surroundings is developed. Through practical and theoretical exercises, the connection between the outdoor educational practice and the control documents of the school is made visible. |
TEACHING |
The working methods comprise practical work in different natural and cultural environments through all seasons. Lectures, seminars, independent studies and individual practical work are also included. As the course is a distance course, the teaching mainly takes place at course meetings with overnight stay. The course is carried out in such a way that the experiences and knowledge of both men and women are acknowledged and developed.
|
EXAMINATION |
The course is examined continuously through a written, individual reflection assignment linked to the activity of each course date and to the course literature. The final assignment consists of an educational development work and a project plan, both of which should be presented orally and in writing.
Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination. |
