AIM OF THE COURSE
On completion of the course, the student should be able to

- account for theoretical models and concepts in the area of learning theories
- assess the usefulness of learning theories for pupils' learning
- describe the influence of learning theories on classroom processes, analyse and critically review others' and own teaching practice and pupils' learning processes by means of scholarly perspectives, concepts and tools
CONTENTS
Theory and Practice and Early Theories of Learning, 7.5 HE credits

The relationship between theory and practice and how the participants' own educational pre-understanding can be related to this are problematised in the module. Behaviouristic and social-cognitive theories are studied, and the usefulness of these theories is discussed.

Cognitive and Socio-Cultural Theories and Theory into Practice, 7.5 HE credits
In the module, the theory formations of Piaget and Vygotsky are studied, as well as theories of situated learning. The usefulness of the theories is contrasted. Finally, how the participants' view on the relation theory/practice has been influenced/changed during the course is problematised.
TEACHING
The teaching is carried out by means of different distance-spanning technologies. Course introduction and certain lectures/seminars take the form of physical meetings. The teaching is given both by means of a study guide and various types of communication. During the course, the student should carry out a number of assignments in connection with the literature studies, which are presented in writing. Network discussions between students are carried out in connection with these assignments.
EXAMINATION
The two modules are examined in writing through compulsory written assignments.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Teaching degree, at least 180 HE credits or equivalent. In addition to above mentioned requirements, documented knowledge in Swedish and English equivalent to general entry requirements for first-cycle studies is required.
GRADING
A grade of Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail is given for the course
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
OTHER INFORMATION
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
