| AIM OF THE COURSE |
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
* orient oneself in some central scientific question formulations and in research methods within teaching and learning and in general within the field of social and behavioural sciences
* apply a scientific approach |
| CONTENTS |
| The course is a basic introduction to scientific theory and research methods in social and behavioural sciences. The following central questions will be covered theoretically and practically in the course: What is science, and how does scientific knowledge differ from everyday knowledge? What is a scientific question? How is research carried out? |
| TEACHING |
| The main working method is seminars based on argumentation, reflection and discussion. Through studies of literature and reflection, scientific perspectives and method choice are highlighted. Lectures also occur. |
| EXAMINATION |
The student carries out an examination assignment that consists of writing a scholarly text. The students should critically review another student's text and discuss each other's work.
Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination. |

| A grade of Pass or Fail is given for the course |
| CERTIFICATE |
| Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division. |

|
The course literature is decided upon by the department
in question. |
| OTHER INFORMATION |
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.
The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed. |
