AIM OF THE COURSE
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

* be familiar with different contexts where outdoor activities are organised and carried out
* interpret the concept of outdoor activities, both from a historical and a contemporary perspective
* interpret the significance of outdoor activities for learning and education
* illustrate how different educational methods create learning in shifting outdoor situations.
* design outdoor activities for staging of learning, with focus on activities for adults and adolescents.
* apply educational methods appropriate within the student's own outdoor situations.
* describe his/her own attitude towards outdoor activities
* see the need for various types of leadership in outdoor activities
* relate various types of leadership to group processes, the age and experience of the participants and the external context
CONTENTS
The course covers the pedagogue's relation to the outdoor context. The focus of the course is on outdoor activities as a way of life, learning, educational method and experience. The student should develop awareness and knowledge of outdoor activities, where nature experiences and understanding of culture constitute the basis, and further develop the theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the teaching, learning and didactics of outdoor activities.

* The educational history and roots of outdoor education.
* Current research in the fields of outdoor activities and outdoor education.
* Outdoor activities as natural and cultural traditions.
* Outdoor activities in both non-profit and commercial activities, popular education and recreation activities.
* Approach to knowledge, transmission of knowledge, knowledge through action and systematised reflection.
* Leadership.
* Structuring and evaluation of guided outdoor activities.
* Nature experiences and education.
TEACHING
The teaching takes the form of lectures, seminars, independent studies and group assignments. Certain parts of the teaching are located outdoors.
EXAMINATION
The course is examined both individually and in groups, through continuous written and/or oral presentations, course assignments and prepared seminars

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

GRADING
A grade of Pass or Fail is given for the course
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
OTHER INFORMATION
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
