AIM OF THE COURSE
The students should on completion of the course
- have acquired further advanced knowledge of ethical theories and their application on concrete problem areas,
- have acquired advanced skills to critically analyse ethical texts,
- have good ability to argue for own ethical positions.
CONTENTS
The course consists of two modules of about 7.5 HE credits each.

Module 1:
This module provides an advanced overview in general ethics with specific illustration from a field in applied ethics, for example bioethics or social ethics.

Module 2:
The students study chosen literature within problem areas such as moral philosophy, theological ethics, economics and ethics, policy and ethics, feministic ethics, technology ethics, health care ethics, animal ethics and environmental ethics.
TEACHING
In addition to independent studies of text material, groups studies of chosen literature and compulsory seminars, other types of teaching and working methods may occur, such as using Internet resources or film screenings. Lectures and supervision will be given as support to the above. All students are expected to participate actively and constructively in seminars and other occasions for group work through solid preparations.
EXAMINATION
The course is examined in part through take-home examination (Module 1), and in part through written presentation and oral seminar presentation of a literature study (Module 2). Active, individual, oral participation in the seminars is required to pass the course.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Religious Studies - Studies in Faith and Ideologies, continuation course, module Ethics, or the equivalent.
GRADING
A grade of Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail is given for the course
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
OTHER INFORMATION
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
