AIM OF THE COURSE
On completion of the course, the student should be able to
- demonstrate knowledge of the history of Christianity and its subdisciplines,
- account for fundamental features and important events of the historical development of Christianity,
- demonstrate knowledge of objective contents and modes of expression in some church historical source texts,
- search, systematise, compile and critically review and interpret information, and present the work process and conclusions of a church historical, missionary research-related or ecclesiastical issue,
- with a basic academic approach, relate to church historical events and issues through a critical and objective oral or written presentation.
CONTENTS
The following is studied in the course
- the history of the subject of Christianity and its subdisciplines; source and method issues,
- the emergence and development of the Christian church over two thousand years; developments and transition periods, such as for example the early church, the break-through of Christianity during the Late Antiquity, or the reformation era.
TEACHING
In addition to independent studies of text material, compulsory seminars, compulsory written assignments, oral presentations and written examination, other types of teaching/working methods may occur, such as film screenings and study visits. Lectures are given as support to the above. All students are expected to participate actively and constructively in seminars, etcetera, through solid preparations for them.
EXAMINATION
The course is examined through compulsory seminars, written assignments, written examination, oral presentation and public discussion. Active participation in the seminars is required to pass the course.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Admission to the course requires at least 22.5 HE credits from Religious Studies, basic course, or the equivalent.
GRADING
A grade of Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail is given for the course
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
OTHER INFORMATION
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
