AIM OF THE COURSE
On completion of the course, the student should be able to
- account for the contents, history and theology of the gospels and exegesis questions,
- read New Testament gospels in their original language,
- independently interpret the New Testament in its original language.
CONTENTS
The course consists of:

Study of gospel text in Greek with continuous commentary and continued work with vocabulary, morphology and syntax. Introduction to the tradition history of the New Testament texts and exercise interpreting the critical device. Continued study of the contents, historical context and thought world of the gospels, with specific focus on the questions around the Jesus figure of the gospels and his preaching, as well as the problems surrounding the historical Jesus. Application of exegetical and hermeneutic method.
TEACHING
The student's work mainly consists of independent literature studies, translation and exegesis. In addition, there will be lectures, text seminars and discussions of the reading list, and minor written productions written by the students. The seminar sessions in all cases imply work that should be carried out in advance.
EXAMINATION
The course is examined through oral or written examination, and through the written productions that are produced during the course.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

At least 7.5 HE credits from Religious Studies - Old and New Testament Exegesis, continuation course, and at least 7.5 HE credits from New Testament Greek, basic course, or the equivalent.
GRADING
A grade of Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail is given for the course
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
OTHER INFORMATION
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
