The aim of the whole course is that students should become proficient in Swedish, and acquire a knowledge of Swedish social and cultural studies as well as gain familiarity with teaching and examinations at a Swedish university/college of higher education. The entire course package will meet the special requirements for Swedish (SvB) after a student has passed the final examination after semester 2 (spring semester).

The aim of semester 1 is that students should acquire a basic knowledge of Swedish and develop their language proficiency as well as gaining familiarity with Swedish society and the Swedish system of education. They should acquire a rapidly progressing knowledge of essential basic grammar as well as acquire a functional and relevant vocabulary.

The semester begins with an introduction, which will provide information about practical matters, the Swedish system of higher education, cultural encounters, etc as well as practical help and awareness of how it is to live, study and function socially in Sweden. There will also be a survey of the study techniques common in Swedish higher education, including exercises on how to work in groups.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
