The course Introduction to Intersectional Gender Studies, Policy and Politics in a Globalized World introduces and prepares students for work with intersectional gender issues and/or further studies in gender studies and gender politics in a globalized world, where use of internet is increasingly important. The course is an comprehensive introduction to basic knowledge about the emergence of contemporary intersectional gender, sexuality and ethnicity studies, policy and politics. The course includes teaching on knowledge and training skills for those who aim at working with intersectional gender issues in international settings, institutions and organizations – as agents for change. Throughout the course the students and the teachers work actively with language skills, and one of the aims of the course is to enable the student to discuss and work professionally with intersectional gender issues in English. Another aim is to stimulate autonomous and critical thinking. Intersectional gender studies and gender practices in a globalized world. The course module will deal with specific feminist issues and focus on different intersections of gender and other categories, such as ethnicity and sexuality. Transnational issues such as gendered citizenship, feminist notions on violence and trafficking, whiteness, and deconstruction of regions such as ‘Europe’, will be studied. Furthermore, this module emphasizes the interdisciplinary nature of gender studies, providing examples of gender research in various disciplines, as well as on gender mainstreaming at various levels, such as regional, national and supranational levels. Internet, social media and communication technologies for agents for change Throughout the coursemodule, the student will learn how to communicate knowledge via the internet in an international and multilingual setting. Through online teaching and socio-technological pedagogics the students will train in practice how to search empirical data and present research and practices, as well as communicate in a scientific manner, via different interfaces and social media. Gender studies, gender politics and feminism as agencies for change in history. This curse module provides a comprehensive introduction to basic knowledge about the emergence of contemporary gender studies and gender politics. This includes their historical roots in feminist theory and activism and encompasses different theoretical perspectives as well as historical and current theoretical debates in Europe and internationally. Gender studies scholars as agents for change In this module the student, by working with assorted assignments, will train in practice, how to value, apply and discuss, orally and in writing, theories and practices in gender studies and gender politics, in relation to different fields such as postcolonial studies, critical sexuality studies, queer studies, and gender mainstreaming. |

The course consists of internet-based and face-to-face lectures, mandatory seminars, and course assignments. The face-to-face meetings encompass lectures, mandatory seminars, and course assignments. In addition, students are expected to engage in independent studies individually and in groups. The course is examined by individual written exams, active participation in internet based mandatory seminars and activities, face to face seminars and mandatory course assignments. Detailed information about the examination can be found in the course’s study guide. Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination. Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades. |
