AIM OF THE COURSE

On completion of the course, the students should, on an advanced level within the field of Gender Studies – Intersectionality and Change, be able to - account for and critically reflect upon various feminist epistemologies, ontologies and ethics. - analyze and critically examine historiographies within the field; - analyze and critically examine Intersectional Gender Studies and the diversity of the existing intersectional feminist theorization.

CONTENTS

The course addresses: - historiographies of Intersectional Gender Studies in local and transnational perspectives; - the emergence of Intersectional Gender Studies as a multi-, inter-, trans- and postdisciplinary field of inquiry, embedded in cross-disciplinary dialogues and critical interventions in both human, social, medical, technical and natural science disciplines; - different branches of feminist theorizing, for example queerfeminism, postcolonial and anti-racist feminism, cyberfeminism, cyborgfeminism, sexual difference feminism, radical feminism, historical materialist feminism, feminist materialism, posthumanist feminism and profeminist and critical studies of men; - different feminist epistemologies, ontologies and ethics.

TEACHING

Lectures, discussions, seminars, workshops and/or other learning activities take place in online-classroom and in face-to-face meetings on campus. In between seminars and lectures students study the course literature independently and communicate with each other online in peer learning groups, supervised by tutors. The language of instruction is English

EXAMINATION

The course is examined through active participation in seminars, workshops and through a written individual assignments. Detailed information about the examination can be found in the study guide and the key information document. Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination. Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree with at least 30 ECTS credits in Gender Studies or equivalent qualifications are required. Documented knowledge of English equivalent to Engelska B/Engelska 6.

GRADING

The course is graded according to the ECTS grading scale A-F

CERTIFICATE

Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.

COURSE LITERATURE

The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.

OTHER INFORMATION

Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus. The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
