AIM OF THE COURSE | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
On completion of the course, the students should, on an advanced level within the field of Gender Studies – Intersectionality and Change, be able - to critically account for and reflect on concepts of intersectional gender/sex and their analytical and political relevance; - to use and account for the required standard on-line tools on which the teaching of the master’s programme is based, including online library resources; - to critically account for and reflect on possibilities to combine academic and creative modes of communication; - to critically account for and reflect possibilities and challenges of transdisciplinary, transnational and other boundary transgressing modes of working; - to account for and to follow the basic rules and regulations for advanced studies at Swedish universities, especially at LiU. |

CONTENTS | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The course provides critically contextualized introductions to - contents of the master’s programme Gender Studies - Intersectionality and Change, focusing on concepts of intersectional gender/sex and their analytical and political relevance; - the online tools on which the teaching of the master’s programme is based, including the online resources of the university library; - possibilities and challenges of the multi-lingual learning environment where English is the main language of communication; - modes of academic communication in speech and writing, using both academic and creative styles; - challenges and potentials of transgressive modes of working beyond disciplinary, national and other boundaries; - necessary tools for studying at advanced level in Sweden and especially at LiU. |

TEACHING | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The course is mainly organized as an intensive face-to-face course. Lectures followed by discussions provide introductory overviews. The teaching formats include seminars, workshops, tutorials and/or other learning activities. EXAMINATION | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The course is examined through active participation in seminars, workshops and/or other learning activities and through written individual assignments. Detailed information about the examination can be found in the course’s Key document. Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination. Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades. |

A bachelor’s degree in the humanities, arts, science, technology or social sciences with at least 30 credits in Gender Studies or equivalent qualifications. Documented knowledge of English equivalent to Engelska B/Engelska 6: internationally recognized test, e.g. TOEFL (minimum scores: Paper based 575 + TWE-score 4.5, and internet based 90+TWE-score 20), IELTS, academic (minimum score Overall band 6.5 and no band under 5.5), or equivalent. |
