AIM OF THE COURSE
After completion of the course the student should on advanced level be able to
- account for and discuss key concepts in gender studies
- account for and discuss the connections between local, national and global conditions, according to theories of gender and power relations
- analyze and discuss equality policy work, models and methods in that work
- use the concept of intersectionality in analyzing gender and education
- account for and critically discuss the use of gender-related methods in educational contexts
- critically discuss the way in which gender-related power structures affect organizations and institutions
- carry out a small scale survey in a for the student relevant context
- design a strategic document on how to integrate skills and knowledge on intersectional gender and gender mainstreaming in orgaanizations and institutions
- perform a presentation of a planned teaching situation on intersectional gender and gender mainstreaming.
CONTENTS
The course will cover theories and practices on how to teach and integrate knowledge on intersectional gender studies and gender mainstreaming in institutions and organizations. It will also problematize and discuss tools for integrating intersectional gender and gender mainstreaming perspectives in existing educational programmes, courses, and other applications.

Teaching Intersectional Gender, Sexuality, Ethnicity and Equality; an introduction
This course module will cover contemporary key concepts, research and debates within the field of intersectional gender studies and research on gender mainstreaming. Local as well as global aspects of intersectional gender and gender mainstreaming will be in focus. Hence, theories on gender, politics and culture will be thoroughly presented and matched with discussions on effective methods of teaching intersectional gender studies.

Practice of surveying and analyzing results
In this module, each participant will carry out a small scale survey. The survey will consist of questions on intersectional gender and gender mainstreaming, and the results will be presented and discussed in learning groups.

Teaching intersectional gender and gender mainstreaming.
The module includes knowledge on methods and practices of current gender mainstreaming. In addition to this, the relationship between intersectional gender theories, gender mainstreaming, organizations and institutions will be analyzed. Connections to the application of gender theory and the implementation of gender mainstreaming will be in focus.

Gender perspectives on teaching and learning processes
Finally, this course module will enhance the focus on teaching and learning processes in the area of intersectional gender studies and gender mainstreaming. The student will design a strategic document on how to integrate skills and knowledge on intersectional gender and gender mainstreaming. The course participants will also design a teaching and learning situation designed to fit a specific context or group. The outlines will be presented orally as well as by chosen socio-technological teaching methods.
TEACHING
The course will mix internet activities with face-to face meetings on campus. The course consists of lectures, seminars and course assignments, both in the classroom and online. In addition to this, the students are expected to engage in independent studies. Language of instruction: English.
EXAMINATION
The course is examined by individual written exams, active participation in seminars and mandatory course assignments. Detailed information about the examination can be found in the course’s study guide.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor degree in an academic area related to the course. Experience from teaching at university or college is advantageous. Documented knowledge of English equivalent to "Engelska B"; i.e. English as native language or an internationally recognized test, e.g. TOEFL (minimum scores: Paper based 575 + TWE-score 4.5, and internet based 90), IELTS, academic (minimum score: Overall band 6.5 and no band under 5.5), or equivalent.
GRADING
The course is graded according to the ECTS grading scale A-F
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.

Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
