AIM OF THE COURSE | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
On completion of the course, the student should be able to: - describe the work process of the own creation in some of the different disciplines of the aesthetic field, - demonstrate a scientific approach to own and others' creating activities within the aesthetic field, - demonstrate an understanding of the meaning of the concepts of knowledge, science and artistic research and development work - analyse and discuss the current debate in the knowledge sphere of the aesthetic disciplines, - analyse, describe and reflect on the creative process and creativity by studying developments and processes on the basis of own or others' aesthetic activities, - plan and carry out individual work that is related to research methods and theories, as well as artistic research and development. |

CONTENTS | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The course covers - the own creative work process in the aesthetic field, - the meaning of the concepts of knowledge, science, research and development work, as well as artistic research and development work, - different research methods, in terms of methods for data collection and qualitative and quantitative approach, - creative activities and the meaning of the concept of creativity linked to both research and general language usage, - the creative work in art, handicraft, design and science, presented in view of mainly the cultural history and current research and debate of the 20th century, - knowledge of creativity as a part of developing the own creative process. The course includes individual work with use of research methods and theories relevant to aesthetic creative activities. |

TEACHING | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Lectures, seminars, independent work, laboratory sessions with aesthetic specialisation and supervision. The students should also study independently. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

The student's efforts are examined continuously at seminars and through presentations of tasks during the course. At least one individual written work that takes the form of a report is presented in the course. Other forms of presentation, such as exhibition, video and multimedia, supplement the oral presentation. Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination. Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades. |
