CONTENTS
Theory and Method in Historical Research, 7.5 HE credits

The students should acquire advanced understanding of historical theory and methodology, such as current scientific theoretical problems in general. This module includes an orientation in the current research situation of history, and different specialisations internationally and nationally.

Advanced Historical Specialisation, 7.5 credits

The students should acquire advanced knowledge of the history of a region or a chronological period, or a specific historical-scientific theme. The specialisation alternatives are above all based on the prevailing research profile of the subject, but also on other higher education institutions in the country. The module therefore intends, among other things, to prepare the student for third-cycle programmes, both nationally and internationally.

Scientific Work, 15 HE credits

The scientific work may either be designed to constitute an advanced study of certain parts of the basic level thesis or directed towards a problematising of literature around a problem area. The scientific work is presented in the form of a thesis. The thesis work may also be designed as a pilot study for a later thesis.
TEACHING
Lectures and seminars constitute essential parts of the teaching. Active participation in the compulsory parts of the working methods is a part of the examination. Independent work, individually or in groups, is included. The thesis work, which has a historical-theoretical profile, is carried out in close contact between the student and supervisor. The course includes independent knowledge acquisition via, for example, existing historical-scientific literature and/or archive (or the equivalent).
EXAMINATION
The course is examined in several different ways. Written examination in the form of a take-home examination is one way, as is independent oral examination. The essay is examined in seminars, which, in addition to defending the own the thesis work, includes carrying out an oral public discussion. Active participation in the seminars is required.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
