AIM OF THE COURSE
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- exercise interpersonal psychotherapy and brief relational therapy for psychiatric problems such as depression and state of anxiety,
- apply concepts from these therapy methods as tools in assessment and consultation of other clinical problems, such as personality disorders and neuropsychiatric states,
- apply the ability to carry out theoretically and empirically based assessments of how these therapy methods may be combined with other psychological and medical treatment,
- demonstrate close familiarity with the scholarly status of the therapy methods,
- demonstrate knowledge of the applicability and limitations of interpersonal and relational psychotherapy,
- in a practical way, apply ethical principles and current legislation and ordinances that regulate psychotherapists' actions in the clinical field.
CONTENTS
The course intends give an advanced specialisation in newer psychotherapy methods for individuals who already work with own treatment responsibility. The course covers techniques and intervention models in the two treatment forms of interpersonal psychotherapy and brief relational therapy. The student should, on completion of the education, be able to carry out psychotherapy according to the methods that are prescribed in the two specialisations. The course gives the own experiences as a psychotherapist central importance, as it constitutes the basis for the development of the new technologies that are taught in the course.

Particular focus is on:
- practical application of techniques and intervention models in interpersonal psychotherapy and brief relational therapy,
- the therapy relation between psychotherapist and client, with background in empirical research, students' own experiences and theory,
- psychotherapeutic work with clients that have problems of more complex nature. Particularly focus will be on reflections on the therapist's own importance for the therapy process
- comparisons between these treatment modes and other brief psychotherapy modes.
- development of qualified skills in the two methods,
- the importance of knowledge from psychotherapy research and the question of evidence-based psychotherapeutic treatment.
TEACHING
Psychotherapeutic work under supervision is carried out continuously during the course. A large part of the teaching is carried out in smaller supervisory groups with a supervisor who is educated in the respective method. In addition to the supervisory group work, the teaching is given in the form of exercises, seminars and lectures. In addition to the scheduled teaching, the student should study independently, individually or in groups.
EXAMINATION
The course is examined written and orally. The examination takes place in connection with each semester. The therapy work is examined continuously in the supervision. Detailed information can be found in the separate course instructions.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Completed psychotherapist education and The National Board of Health and Welfare's professional status qualification as a psychotherapist is required. Also required is a certificate from an employer that the student carries out treatment assignments in human services that are suitable as bases for relational and interpersonal supervision. In addition to the above, documented knowledge in Swedish and English is required, equivalent to the general entry requirements for first-cycle studies.
GRADING
A grade of Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail is given for the course
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.

Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
