AIM OF THE COURSE
After completing the course the student should be able to;
- use, explain and critique theoretical information and communication concepts in the environmental field.
- account for the global and cultural significance of environmental communication
- analyse the different organisations’ perceptions, communicative activities, and their significance for the handling of environmental issues.
- conduct environmental communication activities,
- analyse the significance of information and communication technologies on the environmental issues, for learning and the organisation of knowledge.
- independently evaluate and scrutinise the significance of different types of environment communication practices.
CONTENTS
In-depth studies of the communicative practices in the environmental field. This means analysis and practical training in communicative activities. The course tackles key concepts and theories in the field of communication and links them to practical communicative situations. The course tackles the following themes:
- Concepts, actors and discourse in the environmental field
- Practical communication with a focus on professional discussions and environmental communication to the general public,
- Analysis of environmental communication practices.
TEACHING
The course work is conducted in the form of base groups, lectures, seminars, workshops and laboratory work. Additional resources can be arranged for the course. Students are also required to study independently. If necessary, the course may be taught in English.
EXAMINATION
The course is examined by active participation in base group work, literature seminars and workshops and an individual written assignment. Detailed information is available in the student guidance handbook. Detailed information about the examination can be found in the courses study guide.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

At least one year of full time undergraduate study in environment science or equivalent.
Documented knowledge of English equivalent to Engelska B/Engelska 6: internationally recognized test, e.g. TOEFL (minimum scores: Paper based 575 + TWE-score 4.5, and internet based 90+TWE-score 20), IELTS, academic (minimum score Overall band 6.5 and no band under 5.5), or equivalent. Exemption from Swedish B
GRADING
The course is graded on the following scale: Pass with distinction; Pass; Fail.
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
OTHER INFORMATION
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
