AIM OF THE COURSE
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- account for how natural conditions internationally relate to sustainable development
- explain and use methods and tools that are used in international environmental management
- describe and analyse the relationship between globalisation, the EU and Swedish environmental policy
- evaluate and critically review the interaction between the environmental laws of the EU and in Sweden
- plan and carry out a decision-making basis based on natural conditions.
CONTENTS
The course includes an advanced study of the scientific grounds for international environmental work. The course covers different perspectives on globalisation as a theoretical concept and connects them to the other themes of the course. The environmental laws of the EU are introduced in relation to how they are implemented in the member states, with a focus on directives. The course includes advanced studies of international negotiations, agreements and conventions, Swedish development aid, and how businesses are affected by international environmental policy
TEACHING
This course utilises work in tutorial groups and project groups, lectures, seminars and practical parts. Additional resource sessions may be organised in the course. The students should also study independently. Language instruction: English
EXAMINATION
The course is examined both through oral and written work, for example project reports, individual assignments and public discussion of another student's work, and through assessing active participation in projects, tutorial group work, seminars and other practical parts. Active participation at the final review of the course is also required.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

At least one year of full time undergraduate study in environment science or equivalent.
Documented knowledge of English equivalent to Engelska B/Engelska 6: internationally recognized test, e.g. TOEFL (minimum scores: Paper based 575 + TWE-score 4.5, and internet based 90+TWE-score 20), IELTS, academic (minimum score Overall band 6.5 and no band under 5.5), or equivalent. Exemption from Swedish B
GRADING
The course is graded on the following scale: Pass with distinction; Pass; Fail.
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
OTHER INFORMATION
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
