AIM OF THE COURSE
On completion of the course the student should be able to
- critically discuss the central concepts and theories within the research fields of migration and identity,
- describe salient social, cultural and ethical dimensions and conditions in relation to migration and identity negotiations, in global as well as local, contemporary and past contexts,
- by applying a critical social anthropological perspective analyze situations of conflict and accommodation in relation to migration and identity negotiations.
CONTENTS
The course focuses on social, cultural and ethical dimensions and conditions in relation to migration and identity negotiations. This involves contemporary and past conflicts and accommodations between migrants and others, in global as well as local contexts. The course gives emphasis to a critical social anthropological perspective to the study of students’ own as well as others’ societies.
TEACHING
Lectures and literature studies. The language of instruction is English.
EXAMINATION
The course is examined by an individual, written assignment. Detailed information about the examination is included in the study guide for the course.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Documented knowledge of English equivalent to Engelska B/Engelska 6.
GRADING
The course is graded according to the ECTS grading scale A-F
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
