AIM OF THE COURSE
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to demonstrate:
-advanced online communication skills of information retrieval, including optimal use of search language, interrogating national and international databases, using WWW search engines and intelligent agents, searching the 'Dark Web', and evaluating online information,
-knowledge of new retrieval strategies necessary to deal with digitalized information distribution,
-practical and analytical understanding of "new new media", such as blogs, podcasting, social bookmarking, tagging and social machines,
- skills of production and analysis of these new dissemination methods and of the tools available within them.
CONTENTS
The course is a laboratory course developing the relation between production and analytical perspectives with the emphasis on research and information production on the Internet. The development of what can be called "new new media" have increasingly shown that interactivity, many-to-many distribution forms and the metaphor of "conversation" have become central to publicistic, publishing and publicity activity. At a practical level, the course deals with; a) Information retrieval, b) Online communication, c) An overview of "new new media", d) Practical production.
TEACHING
Practical sessions will be conducted in a computer laboratory. Lectures and seminars will be partly classroom-based and partly conducted in a virtual environment.
Students will be required to research, produce and write on a topic of their choice. Lecturers participating in this course will include international researchers and tutors who will conduct online seminars.
The language of instruction is English.
EXAMINATION
Examination requirements for the course consist of the production of a multimedia project and its publication, an individual essay as well as participation in group projects and obligatory seminars.



Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To be admitted to the course the students should have at least one year of undergraduate studies and documented knowledge of English. Documented knowledge of English B means a TOEFL-score of at least 550/213 or equivalent test (if your native language is not English).

The course is graded according to the ECTS grading scale A-F
