| AIM OF THE COURSE |
On completion of the course, the student should be able to
- account for basic economic concepts and relationships. - account for how economic conditions affect individuals and society on different levels, regarding for example social, political and cultural factors and how economic development in turn is influenced by these factors. |
| CONTENTS |
Both in daily life and in working life, we are constantly faced with economic problems and decisions. The student in the course should develop an understanding of what such problems imply, how they can be analysed and how welfare and efficiency can be increased. The problems may apply to prices, consumption and production of individual goods and services, as well as concerning the labour market or international trade. They are also concern the development of total production, welfare, unemployment and inflation. The student should also develop knowledge of the possibilities to govern the economy with political decisions, and certain knowledge of the features and historical development of the Swedish economy.
The course is therefore aimed at students from other subject areas who want to supplement with a basic understanding of socioeconomic problems, as well as to professionals with an interest for such questions and who want to improve their understanding of economic information in the media or in relation to their professional role.

| TEACHING |
| Teaching takes the form of lectures and seminars. The students should also study independently. |
| EXAMINATION |
Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades. |

| GRADING |
| A grade of Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail is given for the course |
| CERTIFICATE |
| Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division. |

| The course literature is decided upon by the department
in question. |
| OTHER INFORMATION |
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.
The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed. |
