On completion of the course, students should be able to - account for key perspectives in organization theory - describe the development of theories of modern organizational theory - account for important texts and researchers in the field - critically review and analyze theories in organization theory - describe key challenges in the field and relate to adjacent theoretical fields - account for important challenges in the field and show ability to discuss the practical implications of these for today's organizations. |

As organizations of various kinds are of crucial importance in modern society, organizational theory and related fields are studied for several purposes and from different perspectives. This course focuses modern, classical organization theory. Classical organization theory concepts and paradigms are studied, as well as HRM, culture, strategy, power, institutions, gender and organizational structure. A central aspect of organizations is that they consist of individuals, or agents, which together create, not only organizations, but above all different perceptions of them. Society also consists of various types of organizations, within which we live large parts of our lives, as family members, employees, students, etc. The agent's ability and intentions, as well as the structures of society at large, affect the course of events in a particular organization. |

TEACHING | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The course consists of lectures, seminars and group discussions, individual work and group work. Participation in seminars and group discussions are obligatory and the students must prepare both individually and in group before the various seminars. The course is examined through group assignments, compulsory attendance at seminars and one individual written examination. At least two years (120 ECTS credits) of undergraduate studies, of which a minimum of 60 ECTS credits in Business Administration (or equivalent).
