AIM OF THE COURSE
On completion of the course, the student should be able to
- demonstrate advanced cultural and literary-historical knowledge
- apply literary-critical theories in an independent literary-critical study
- publicly discuss on and defend a literary-critical essay.
CONTENTS
Module 1: Optional Course I, 7.5 HE credits

Module 1 and 2 consists of optional independent studies that are either chosen from the existing independent reading courses in comparative literature, or designed individually and in consultation with the examiner to fit the student's specific interest field. Courses can also be chosen from the Master's Programme in Language and Culture in Europe after having consulted the examiner.

Module 3: Paper Writing III, 15 HE credits
Uppsatskurs III
The module includes a compulsory seminar series, a thesis work comprising 15 HE credits and a critical review assignment.
TEACHING
The teaching takes the form of individual supervision, independent studies and a compulsory seminar series.
EXAMINATION
The optional courses are examined orally or through take-home examinations. The examination of the thesis course includes a compulsory thesis work, a compulsory critical review assignment and active participation in seminars. Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Passing grade in Comparative Literature, basic course and continuation course, and completed Comparative Literature, in-depth course with at least 24 HE credits approved (or the equivalent), including the thesis. In addition to the above, documented knowledge in Swedish and English is required, equivalent to the general entry requirements for first-cycle studies.
GRADING
A grade of Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail is given for the course
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
OTHER INFORMATION
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
