AIM OF THE COURSE | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
On completion of the course, the student should be able to - account for the expressive possibilities of the Swedish language, both in writing and in oral presentation, particularly regarding linguistic situations relevant to working life, - demonstrate knowledge of the linguistic and formal requirements for writing academic work at Swedish higher education institutions, - demonstrate knowledge of the Swedish labour market with an emphasis on employment policy, labour laws and Swedish working conditions, - define a number of basic concepts relevant to the labour market, - describe certain basic social conditions of the region relevant to the course, - discuss one of the social conditions of the region relevant to the course, - show familiarity with the conditions and situations of a vocational branch in Sweden. |

CONTENTS | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The social sciences part of the course contains topics such as the structure of the labour market, measures to promote mobility, measures to promote employment and protective legislation in workplace. The linguistic part comprises proficiency exercises in Swedish pronunciation and grammar. Own text production is directed towards, among other things, reviews, reports, curriculum vitae and the job analysis. Approach to knowledge, knowledge processing and working methods at Swedish universities and higher education institutions are also discussed. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

The teaching takes the form of lectures, study visits, seminars and tutorial group work. The student is also expected to study independently, individually or in groups. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
EXAMINATION | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The course is examined continuously and through active participation in the tutorial group work and seminars. The course is completed with written and oral examination. Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination. Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades. |

The applicant should have a first language other than Swedish and satisfy the general entry requirements for higher education in Sweden, including approved knowledge in Swedish (SvB/Sv 2B or the equivalent, e.g. passed TISUS) and approved knowledge in English (English A or the equivalent). |

Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus. The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed. |
