|Swedish Language 1, basic course , 30 ECTS Credits|
|AIM OF THE COURSE|
|On completion of the course, the student should be able to
- account for Swedish grammar and word formation,
- make a grammatical analysis of simple texts,
- demonstrate good theoretical knowledge of style and structure in different types of text,
- apply different methods of textual analysis,
- assess and evaluate texts from a normative perspective,
- write a linguistically correct nonfiction text,
- give short oral speeches in accordance with basic requirements of adequate structure and body language and be able to assess the oral presentations of another speaker,
- demonstrate good knowledge of the socially conditioned variations of Swedish from a present-day and inter-cultural perspective.
|The course contains Swedish grammar, textual analysis, studies of linguistic norms, written and oral presentation and socio-linguistics.
Grammar (7.5 HE credits) covers the elementary and fundamental word formation and semantics of present-day Swedish.
Textual analysis (9 HE credits) comprises style theory and stylistics and analysis and evaluation of texts. Linguistic norms are discussed.
Written and oral presentation (6 HE credits) consists of practical exercises in oral and written proficiency.
Socio-linguistics (7.5 HE credits) contains studies of the social and contextual variation of the language.
|The scheduled activities comprise lectures/teaching sessions, seminars and group work. Apart from independent studies of the reading list, the studies include group assignments outside of scheduled time.|
|The different modules are examined according to the following:
Grammar: Written examination
Textual analysis: take-home examination and analysis assignments
Written and oral presentation: oral and written presentations
Socio-linguistics: take-home examination and analysis assignments
Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
Specific entry requirements 2 (current language stage 3 and EngB). Exemption is given for relevant language Level 3.
|A grade of Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail is given for the course|
|Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.|
|The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.|
|Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.
The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
