TSEA69 Image Processing, 6 ECTS-points
/Bildbehandling/

Advancement level:
D

Aim:
To give basic knowledge of digital image processing, including image reconstruction and tomography.

Prerequisites:
TSDT 69, Circuit theory D, or TSDT 71, Circuit theory Y.

Course organization:
Lectures, seminars and laboratory work.

Course content:
Introduction. Two-dimensional signal processing. Resampling of images. Gray-scale operations. Non-linear filters. Operations on binary images. Image restoration. Pattern detection. 3D-signals. Image reconstruction and tomography. Optical systems. The laboratory experiments utilizes special image processing software implemented in MATLAB. Each pass of experiments takes nominally 4 hours. Pass 1 Filtering: Testing various convolution kernels in signal and Fourier domain. Pass 2. Binary images: Erosion, dilation, thinning, segmentation applied to some inspection problems. Pass 3 Various experiments: Thresholding with hysteresis, Wiener filtering, matched filtering, counting red blood cells. Pass 4 Design of an optical character reader, Hough transforms. Pass 5. Image input: Shading correction, noise supression, optical flow, other experiments.
