Aim:
The course provides knowledge about methods for transmission of digital information.

Prerequisites:
TSIT 64 Signalteory Y.

Course organization:
The course consists of lectures, exercises and laborations.

Course content:
Introduction: definitions, problems, mathematical models and tools, measures of cost and performance. Information theory: basic concepts, Huffman coding. The vector model: base functions, signal space, optimal receiver, probability of error. Pulse Amplitude Modulation: spectral density, intersymbol interference, the Nyquist criteria, controlled intersymbol interference. Datatransmission methods: ASK, PSK, FSK, QAM, MSK. Coding: introduction to block-codes (linear, cyclic) and convolutional codes. Spread spectrum technoques: direct sequence anf frequency hopping. Data networks: introduction to protocol and access methods.
