Aim:
The course aims to give the engineer important knowledge concerning chemical issues related to threats to the environment and insight into the ways in which industry deals with environmental issues.The course also covers basic hydrology and soil analysis as well as laws and regulations governing the environmental area. Some overall aims are to offer the students practice in problem solving, the ability to work independantly and to develop contacts with industry.

Prerequisites:
TNKI51 Environmental science and basic chemistry. TNKI53 Engineering fluid dynamics

Course organization:
Lectures, laboratory work, project and laboratory work at industry, field trips within and outside the local region.

Course content:
Fundamentals of ecology. Soil analysis and hydrology. Air treatment methods. Water treatment methods. Handling of wastes. Environmental toxins. Laws and regulations. Environmental analytical chemistry. Handling of natural resources.
