Aim:
The course will give basic understanding of Swedish history during the last 1000 years and how the development in Sweden has been influenced by the rest of Europe, but also how the Swedish devolopment during certain periods have influenced the politics and economy in parts of Europe.

Prerequisites:
General prerequisites for university studies.

Course organization:
The course is organized as a series of lectures and seminars. During the course an excursion will also be made.

Course content:
a) Swedish history during the last 1000 years. This section aims at presenting the most important characteristics of the political, economical, technical, social and cultural historical devolopement from a mainly chronological perspective. This section forms the basis for the following course topics. b) Through a number of thematically oriented lectures the overview from section a above is complemented. The lectures involve subjects such as Europe and Sweden during the 17th century, "the Swedish model", and the concept of Swedish neutrality during the 20th century. c)In connection with a one day excursion a number of historical topics from earlier parts of the course are illustrated. d) The students completes a group assignment which is connected to at least one of the thematically oriented lectures given in the course.
