TFFY60 Engineering mechanics, 6,8 ECTS-points
/Mekanik och fysiklab/

Advancement level:
B

Aim:
The course will give an orientation in basic phenomena in classical mechanics, including mechanical oscillations. The course will give basic training in problem solving approaches. The experimental part will give training in how to put up a hypothesis and verify the hypothesis experimentally. Emphasis will be put on the ability to critically judge the validity of results obtained and to present the results in writing.

Prerequisites:
TATM 35 Calculus, TATM 31 Algebra

Course organization:
The course is given in the form of lectures, student seminars and experimental laboratory work.

Course content:
Kinematics (linear and curvilinear motion), relative motion (uniform relative translational and rotational motion, Lorentz' transformation), dynamics of particles (law of inertia, momentum, Newtons´ 2nd and 3rd law, force, friction, angular momentum), work and energy, conservative forces, potential and kinetic energy, dynamics of particle systems, dynamics of rigid bodies, theory of relativity, oscillatory motion (harmonic oscillations and vibrations, coupled oscillators).

TEN1A written examination, 3,5 p.
LAB1Laboratory work with experimental solution of problems and with a written report. , 1 p.
