Aim: This course gives an introduction to the fundamentals of electromagnetics, physical and geometrical optics, solid state physics, atomic, molecular and nuclear physics.Prerequisites: TFFM 50 Principles of Physics, TFFY 60 Engineering mechanicsSupplementary courses: TFFY64 Molecular physics, TFYY01 Chemical surface physicsCourse organization: The course will be given as lectures, classroom exercises and laborations.Course content: Elektromagnetics: Electrostatics, magnetostatics, time-dependent electromagnetic fields. Optics: Refraction, interference, diffraction, polarization, geometrical optics. Atomic and molecular physics: Atomic models, The Schrödinger equation, quantum numbers, the Pauli exclusion principle, molecular orbitals, molecular bonding. Nuclear physics: Models of nuclear structure, radioactivity, fission, fusion. Solid state physics: Crystal structure, reciprocal space, energy band diagrams, Brillouin zones. Course literature: M.
