TFFY03 Molecular Electronics, 4,5 ECTS-points
/Molekylär elektronik/

Advancement level:
D

Aim:
This course attempts to bring insight into electronic and optical phenomena in molecular materials, as a background to molecular electronics, including conjugated and conducting polymers, liquid crystals, organic nonlinear optical materials

Prerequisites:
Recommended courses: TFFY 43 Analytical Mechanics, TFFY 54 Quantum Mechanics II and TFFY 80/78 Chemistry.

Course organization:
Lectures and laborations illustrate the central themes of the course. Group work to define and answer ill defined problems apply this knowledge.

Course content:
The why's and how's of molecular electronics. Chemical and geometrical structure in molecules and polymers and supramolecular objects in solid and liquid phases. Aspects of self-organisation. Computer modelling of molecules and polymers. Electronic structure of molecules and polymers. Electronic transport (charge, energy) in organic materials. The physics and chemistry of conjugated polymers. Polymer electronics. Molecular optics, with nonlinear phenomena and spectral hole burning. Liquid crystal physics. Bioelectronics: nerve conduction and receptor phenomena. The physics of photosynthesis.
