NMAC11 | Splines for use in geometric modeling, ECTS-points /SPLINEFUNKTIONER FÖR DATORSTÖDD KONSTRUKTION/ Advancement level: C
Aim: The aim is to give an introduction to techniques for modeling complex curves and surfaces with the use of parametric spline curves and parametric, tensorproduct spline surfaces. Computer experiments with MATLAB:s splinetoolbox are used to illustrate the methods.Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of mathematics and numerical analysis as taught in the first year of the mathematics program and the courses Numerical methods 1(NMAB04) and Numerical methods 1, cont. (NMAC06).Course organization: The course consists of lectures and computer exercises. Further, every student is supposed to solve problems which are given during the course. The individual solutions are examined and corrected by the teacher.Course content: Parametric curves and surfaces. B-splines. Bezier curves. The Oslo algorithm. Parametric vs geometric continuity. Beta-splines. Computer exercises.Course literature: R. H. Bartels, J.C. Beatty, B.A. Barsky: An introduction to splines for use in computer graphics & geometric modeling. Morgan Kaufmann Publishers, Inc., 1987. Spline Toolbox, User's Guide. Computer exercises. Earlier written examinations with solutions.
