Aim:
The aim is to give the student knowledge of the use and elementary analysis of numerical methods, and further to give the ability to choose relevant methods and apply them for the solution of mathematical problems on the computer.

Prerequisites:
Basic knowledge of mathematics as taught in the first term of the mathematics program and the course NMAB13 Mathematical analysis II. NMAB03 Programming with mathematical applications (may be studied parallelly).

Course organization:
The course constists of lectures, lessons and computer exercises. Participation in the computer exercises is compulsory.

Course content:
Error analysis and computer arithmetic. Nonlinear equations. Approximation of derivatives with differences. Richardson extrapolation. Numerical integration. Ordinary differential equations. Difference equations and stability. Practical application of the methods in computer exercises.
