Aim:
The course aims to increase the understanding in how different physiological and biochemical process can be influenced by drugs. Studies of the mechanisms by which drugs act and relates these to their overall pharmacological effects and clinical uses are important in the course. The course is eligible for those who intend to follow research education or to be employed within the medical field.

Prerequisites:
Equivalent attended basic program of biology with fullfilled "threshold"-demands (passed 50p with a min of 25p theory). It is, furthermore, advisable to have attended profound studies in Cell Biology and Human Physiology.

Course organization:
The course exists of lectures and laboratory projects. At a time work with patient cases according to the basics for problem based learning is also included in purpose to illustrate the clinical use of drugs as well as to give an insight into general diseases, pathogenic and different diagnostic methods. Part of the time work is presented in form of a poster presentation.

Course content:
Lectures include: general pharmacology, recepto-theory, pharmocokinetics, autonomous and central nervous system's pharmacology, cardiovascular pharmacology, pharmacology of the blood, endocrin pharmacology, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatorial drugs, molecular pharmacology and cytostatics. Laboratory projects include different in vitro models and computer simulation.
