NBIC04 | Environmental Care and Management, ECTS-points /PRAKTISK NATURVÅRD OCH TEKNISKT MILJÖSKYDD/ Advancement level: C
Aim: Ability to asses conservation values and pollution levels in different environments. Knowledge about the potentials and limits of technical solutions to environmental problems.Prerequisites: Equivalent attended basic program of biology with fullfilled "threshold"-demands (passed 50p with a min of 25p theory). Approved NBIB10 Floristics & Faunistics 5p must be passed and NBIB06 Environmental management 5p, attended.Course organization: The course consists of lectures, literature studies, laboratory work, field and technical excursions. It is divided in of two parts: environmental care and environmental technologies. Teamwork with field studies and assessment of the conservation interest of sites and the pollution level is an important part of the course as well as individual literature studies about technical solutions to different environmental problems. Full attendance is required due to the predominance of practical exercises in the course.Course content: Ability to asses conservation values and pollution levels in different environments through inventories and evaluations of the species composition. Management of different types of nature, particularly meadows and pastures, forests and inland watercourses. Theoretical studies of technical solutions to environmental problems, particularly alternatives involving biological processes combined with study tours. Examples concerning wastewater technology, energy supply and use, waste management, air pollution prevention, clean production and life cycle analysis are included.Course literature: For the environmental care part: Ekstam U & Forshed N. 1992. Om hävden upphör. SNV. From, J. & Delin, A. (red) 1997. Art- och biotopbevarande i skogen. Skogsvårdstyrelsen i Gävleborgs län. For the environmental technology part: Miljöskyddsteknik, Kompendium i miljöskydd del 2, KTH. Compendiums and reports, information before the course start. Assessment:
