Aim:
The purpose with the course is to give basic knowledge in contnuous-time and discrete-time signal processing for deterministic as well as stochastic signals.

Prerequisites:
TSDT 71 Circuit thory, TAMS 07 Probability, first course

Course organization:
The course consists of lectures, lessons and laboratory work

Course content:
System and signal models. Basic problems and mathematical models, deterministic and stochastic signals. Description of stochastic signals: distribution and density function, mean value, autocorrelation function, spectral density, stationarity, ergodicity. Linear filtering of continuous-time and discrete-time stochastic signals: mean values and spectral density, gaussian signals, white noise, matched filter. Nonlinear filtering: gaussian signals, effects on bandwidth, applications within modulation, quantization. Sampling and reconstruction, sampling theorem, pulse modulation, reconstruction errors. DFT, discrete fourier transform: resolution, windowing, cyclic convolution, comparison with other transforms. Estimation: estimation of mean value, autcorrelation function and spectral density. Noise in electronic components. Applications from modulation theory: amplitude, freqeuency and pulse modulation. Spread spectrum techniques: binary signals, shift registers, pseudo stochastic signals.
