Aim:
To teach the use of information technology in the Graphic Arts. Production of graphics material for electronic and other media.

Prerequisites:
TSEA 20 Computer Hardware and Architecture, TSEA 19 or TSEA 10. Basic knowledge in programming.

Course organization:
The course will be given as lectures accompanied by laboratory work.

Course content:
The history of Graphic Arts and application areas. Colour Science: human colour vision, colour models and standards. Colour image capture. The sampling theorem. Colour gamut, grey balance, colour correction and gamut compression. Image enhancement and restoration. Conventional halftoning: threshold halftoning, closed and dispresed dots, random dots and halftone structures. Printing methods: offsedt, lithography, gravure and flexo. The Printing process: interaction between paper and ink, optical and physical dot gain. Document structure and page description languages. Electronic publishing: Image data bases, networks and communication.
