TMHL08 Solid Mechanics, the Finite Element Method, 6 ECTS-points
/Hållfasthetslära; Finita Elementmetoden/

Advancement level:
C

Aim:
The course aims at giving basic knowledge of the Finite Element Method (FEM) necessary for utilising it as a tool in daily engineering work.

Prerequisites:
TATM 61, TATM 31, TMME 02, TMHL 07

Course organization:
The course is given during period 4. The theoretical part gives 3 p and the computer exercise gives 1 p.

Course content:
The course is an introduction to the Finite Element Method. One-dimensional second-order elasticity and heat-transfer problems are discussed. A one-dimensional forth order beam problem is also included. Finally, multi-dimensional second order elasticity and heat transfer problems will be reviewed. The method is explained as a Galerkin approximation to the weak formulation of the boundary-value problem at hand.
