TMHL03 | Mechanics of Light Structures, 6 ECTS-points /Hållfasthetslära; Lätta konstruktioner/ Advancement level: C | |
Aim: In this course the general three dimensional field equations of elastostatics are specialised in different ways in order to obtain various simplified theories valid for special cases of loading and geometry. This serves the twofold purpose of deriving theories useful in engineering practice, such as Kirchhoff plate theory and achieving familiarity with the general three dimensional equations. Finally, a qualitatiave discussion about composites in general, and the use of such in thin-walled strucutres will be given. Prerequisites: TMHL 07 Solid Mechanics, Basic Course, TMHL 08 Solid Mechanics, the Finite Element Method Supplementary courses: TMHL 61 Damage Mechanics and Life Analysis TMHL 41 Continuum Mechanics TMHL 62 The Finite Element Method, advanced course TMHL 43 Advanced Mechanics of MaterialsCourse content: Basic relations of elastostatics, composite mechanics. Stretching of plates. Bending of plates. Buckling of plates. FE-analysis of plates. Membrane shell theory. Bending theory of rotationally symmetric shells. Buckling of cylindrical shells.Course literature: Hult, J.: Bära brista: Fortsättningskurs i hållfasthetslära, Almqvist & Wiksell Ottosen N. & Petersson H.: Introduction to the Finite Element Method, Prentice Hall, 1992 Odenö, H.: Exempelsamling i Hållfasthetslära II, LiTH-IKP-S-087 Hedner et al., Formelsamling i Hållfasthetslära, KTH, Dept. of Solid Mechanics, publ.
