Aim:
Electrical and electronic units are more and more frequently found in modern machinery, constituting integrated parts of the equipment. Automatic machines imply the use of well qualified measuring and control equipment, built with electronic circuitry. The course in electrical engineering treats electrical circuits, electronics, electrical measurements, electrical machinery and electric power systems. It will give the necessary knowledge to understand and to a certain extent treat electrical issues in mechanical engineering design, production engineering and control engineering.

Prerequisites:
Linear Algebra, Introductory Physics and Calculus.

Course content:
Part 1 (only for M3, Im2 and Im4). Electrical circuits: Electrical charges, potential, field and capacitance. Ohm's law, Kirchhoff's laws. Thevenin's and Norton's theorems. Superposition. Delta-wye transformation. Joule's theorem. Sinusoidal steady-state analysis, phasor methods, complex method. Power, power factor. Mutual inductance, the ideal transformer. Fourier analysis of periodical waveforms. Non-stationary signals applied to RLC circuits, the use of the Laplace transform. Electronics: The diode, piecewise linear networks, rectifiers. Transistors, DC and AC analysis of transistor circuits. The h-parameter model, amplifiers. Field effect transistors, zener diodes, thyristors. Operational amplifiers. Frequency response, Bode plots. Part 2. Electrical measurements: Laboratory experiments for measuring air flow, time, number of revolutions and frequency, force and temperature. Electric power engineering: Three-phase systems, production and distribution of electrical power. Safety precautions, rules and regulations. The power transformer, power lines, industrial equipment. DC machines, induction motors and synchronous machines. Control of electrical machines, power electronics.
