Aim:
The course will give the students skills in writing professional texts, especially reports and texts of argumentative types, as well as knowledge of rethoric and critical reading. The course will furthermore give practical skills in presentation techniques.

Course organization:
The course is integrated with the course TEIE 09 Financial Control Systems and is divided into two periods. Part 1 is given in period 2 two and part two in period 4. In part 1 the main topics of study is the writing process and report writing and in part 2 argumentation and presentation techniques. The teaching consists of lectures and seminars.

Course content:
Part 1. The communication process and the writing process. Writing standards and conventions. The role of the engineer in communication. Report writing, formal requirements, structure, subjectivity/objectivity, document layout, style, proofreading and proofing tools. Part 2: Presentation techiques; audience, goal and planning. Words, voice, visual aids and manuscript. Bodylanguage. Rethoric; oral and written argumentation. Critical reading. Two written assignments and two oral assignments are given. The written assignments are one report and one argumentative text. The oral assignments include two presentations in front of a small group involving one informative presentation and one argumentative presentation.
