Aim:
The objective is to give basic knowledge about how to achieve correct measurements and an overview of principles and methods of modern measurement technology.

Prerequisites:
Former courses in physics, chemistry, electronics and biology.

Course organization:
Lectures, experiments and demonstrations.

Course content:
Components and functions in a measurement system; sensor, signal conditioning, linearisation, data transmission, A/D-conversion, collection, handling and presentation of data. About tools for measuring and datahandling, LabVIEW. Sensors for measuring some important quantities as temperarutre, flow, pressure, level, pH, etc. About biological and optical methods in environmental measurement technology. Semiconductor sensors. About evaluation of data; neural nets, fuzzy logic, multisensing. Quality in measurements; calibrations and traceability. Methods for assigning inaccuracies, type A and B.
