TFMÄ12 Measurement Systems Design, 4,5 ECTS-points
/Mätsystemteori/

Advancement level:
D

Aim:
The objective is to give mainly theoretical but also practical knowledge about measurement system design (hard- and software) based on what is available today.

Prerequisites:
TFMÄ 05 Sensor technology, TFMÄ 02 Computerised measurement systems, TSDT 71 Circuit theory and TSRT 12 Automatic control.

Supplementary courses:
TFMÄ 14 Industrial measurements.

Course organization:
Lectures and visualisation of the theories through experiments and demonstrations.

Course content:
Statical characteristics of measurement systems; sources of error, handling of inaccuracies, statistical treatment of data. Dynamical characteristics of measurement systems; dynamical properties in time and frequency. Models to compensate for dynamical imperfections. Possibilies to realise models considering disturbing parameters (noise, quantisation error, nonlinearities etc). Different methods for realisation; analogue and digital circuits (filters) or calculations of the signal. Analysis of dynamic (non stationary) events considering time and frequency aspects. STFT (Short Time Fourier Analysis) JTFA (Joint Time Frequency Analysis), wavelets. Special cases for analysis where these methods can be used. Multisensing; combination of information from several sensors to obtain desired information. Multivariate analysis, fuzzy logic and neural nets for combination of sensor information.

Course literature:
Compendium, articles and instructions for experiments.
